Re-establishing Healthy Habits and Back to Blogging!

It has been way too long since I’ve written a blog for myself!  I’m back!

I’m happy, overjoyed, thrilled to say that the running troubles of 2015 seem to be behind me.  (Knock on wood a thousand times.)  I have built my base back up to 30-35 miles a week, and just recently, have worked on slowly increasing my pace back to where I was two years ago.  This is HUGE for me considering that in September of last year, I ran 9, very slow, miles total.  I do still have some lingering left foot issues in my first metatarsal, BUT it has been tolerable and steadily improving. 

Also, I’ve greatly increased my strength-training!  Say what?  It’s true.  I have been limiting myself to running 4 days a week and have added in multiple other forms of exercise!  I do the arc trainer with varying levels of incline and resistance on Tuesday and Thursdays plus multiple arm machines at the gym.  I also use light weights for the old-school Turbo Sculpt workout at home on these days.  Then, after my runs on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and sometimes Saturday, I do weight training circuits including dead lifts, weighted squats, push-ups, dumbbell presses, plus others.  I’ve been consistently increasing the amount of weight I use, and I’m surprisingly loving it.

My body shape is not exactly back to where I want it to be.  After battling an illness last winter, the string of injuries throughout the year, and admittedly just disregarding any form of healthy eating throughout the holiday season (including way too much dark beer,) I ended 2015 20 lbs heavier than I started the year.  Ugh.  I’m happy to report that I am back down 13 lbs now…(and I am not enjoying the seemingly much lower metabolism of my mid-30s.)  I’d love to snap my fingers and be where I want to be, but, since my finger snapping isn’t working, I’m going to continue working hard on re-establishing healthy eating habits to get to my goal.

I have a few race reviews to get up, and I am excited to add more to my schedule.  My sweet kids now have multiple weekend activities, so while I cannot do as many as I have in the past, I am working on squeezing in races when I am able to do it!

Best part of all?  I have had multiple “perfect” runs lately.  You know, the ones where you feel awesome and fast and strong, nothing hurts, and it’s super fun.  It’s been fantastic, and I am so happy to be back to this point!!  (Just knocked on wood again!!)
